Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck, is a cosmetic procedure designed to give you a flatter and firmer abdomen by removing excess skin and fat.

The best candidates for tummy tuck surgery are men and women who have permanently stretched and sagging skin due to weight loss, pregnancy and even genetics. Diet and exercise may help to some degree, but often the only solution is a tummy tuck. If you are bothered by large fat deposit or loose abdominal skin that won’t respond to diet or exercise, then this procedure may be for you.

About the Procedure

There are many different tummy tuck techniques available today. Your plastic surgeon will carefully assess your body type and recommend the best approach for you.

Complete Tummy Tuck
The Complete Abdominoplasty technique is recommended for patients who have large excess fat deposits in the lower and middle abdominal area, as well as very loose skin and lax muscles. The procedure involves a long incision made across the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area. Incisions are kept discreetly within the undergarment line and dissolving stitches are used so there is no removal required afterwards. During a complete tummy tuck, the excess skin is removed, muscles are tightened, and if required, liposuction will be performed to remove the excess fat.

Mini Tummy Tuck
The mini tummy tuck is an option that works best for people who carry a moderate amount of excess fat and skin on their lower abdomen. A mini tummy tuck requires only a small incision above the pubic bone leaving the belly button intact. Unlike a complete tummy tuck, muscle tightening is not performed.

Other Tummy Tuck Techniques:

  • Endoscopic Tummy Tuck
  • Dermolipectomy Tummy Tuck
  • Reverse Tummy Tuck
  • Vertical Scar Abdominoplasty or Fleur-de-lis Tummy Tuck
Before Tummy Tuck
1. An incision just above the pubic area is used to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen.
Tummy Tuck
2. Skin is separated from the abdominal wall all the way up to the ribs.
Tummy Tuck
3. The surgeon draws underlying muscle and tissue together and stitches them, thereby narrowing the waistline and strengthening the abdominal wall.
Tummy Tuck
4. Abdominal skin is drawn down and excess is removed. With complete abdominoplasty, a new opening is cut for the navel. Both incisions are stitched closed.
After Tummy Tuck
5. After surgery, the patient has a flatter, trimmer abdomen. Scars are permanent, but will fade with time.

Your New Look

Tummy Tuck surgery is a major surgical procedure with a 3 to 4 week recovery time. However, the benefits outweigh the costs. You will benefit from a firmer, flatter stomach and narrower waist. A smoother body contour will allow your clothes to fit better, increasing your confidence and self-esteem.
