About the Procedure
Your plastic surgeon may perform either the traditional or the new endoscopic breast augmentation procedure, depending on the specific needs of your surgery. The endoscopic, or limited scar, breast augmentation involves small incisions placed in the underarm to prevent any visible scarring on the breasts. Your surgeon may also use more traditional breast augmentation techniques, which involve creating small incisions either on the edge of the areola or under the natural crease of the breast.
The procedure only takes a two to three hours under a general anesthetic allowing you to return home on the same day. Breast lift surgery or mastopexy surgery may also be performed in conjunction with breast augmentation.
Incisions are made to keep scars as inconspicuous as possible, in the breast crease, around the nipple, or in the armpit. Breast tissue and skin is lifted to create a pocket for each implant.
The breast implant may be inserted directly under breast tissue or beneath the chest wall muscle.
After surgery, breasts appear fuller and more natural in tone and contour. Scars will fade with time.
